Brown Ballerinas: Redefining Ballet On A World Stage

Rejoice: Dance. Heal. Rise.

As we close 2025, we reflect on a year of growth, collaboration, and meaningful transforma

Rejoice is a community-based outreach dance program for teenage girls and young women from displaced and impoverished communities. Inspired by a God-given vision and powered by local mentors, Rejoice uses movement, music, and sisterhood to nurture confidence, creativity, and hope. We create safe, joyful spaces where participants can express their stories, build life skills, and step into leadership—on and off the dance floor.

What we do

  • Free and low-cost dance classes across styles (contemporary, hip-hop, African dance, worship, and more)

  • Trauma-informed mentoring and small-group circles for encouragement and practical support

  • Life-skills workshops (goal-setting, wellness, financial basics, career exploration, college readiness)

  • Leadership and peer-mentor development for older participants

  • Performance opportunities that celebrate culture and community

  • Outreach pop-ups at shelters, community centers, and schools

  • Transportation assistance, healthy snacks, and essential supplies where possible

  • Referrals to trusted community services (counseling, education, housing, healthcare) as needed

Who we serve

  • Teen girls and young women (approximately ages 12–24), including those who are refugees, experiencing homelessness, or from low-income households

  • Participants of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities—no prior dance experience required

Our approach

  • Safe spaces first: clear safeguarding policies, background-checked staff, and welcoming studios

  • Strength-based and trauma-informed: we honor each story and focus on dignity, agency, and growth

  • Culturally responsive: programming that reflects and celebrates participants’ identities

  • Community-led: local instructors, alumni mentors, and partnerships with schools, shelters, and faith and civic groups

  • Accessible: free or sliding-scale programs with practical supports to reduce barriers

Mission
To empower teenage girls and young women from displaced and impoverished communities through dance, mentorship, and community, cultivating confidence, connection, and hope for a brighter future.

Purpose

  • Transform pain into purpose by turning movement into a language of healing and joy

  • Build belonging and resilience through consistent community and positive role models

  • Equip participants with life skills, leadership opportunities, and pathways to education and employment

  • Celebrate the God-given worth, gifts, and potential within every young woman

Values

  • Dignity: Every person is seen, heard, and valued

  • Joy: We choose celebration, creativity, and gratitude

  • Safety: Physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being are prioritized

  • Inclusion: All cultures, body types, and abilities are welcome

  • Growth: We pursue excellence, discipline, and lifelong learning

  • Resilience: We rise together through challenges with courage and grace

  • Service: We give back and lift as we climb

  • Faith and Hope: We are inspired by a vision of restoration and a future with promise

Impact (what we measure)

  • Increased confidence, school engagement, and positive peer connections

  • Improved emotional regulation and well-being

  • Leadership roles taken on by participants in programs and community events

  • Alumni pursuing education, careers, and creative opportunities

How to get involved

  • Enroll: Join a class, workshop, or mentoring circle

  • Volunteer: Teach, mentor, or support events and outreach

  • Partner: Collaborate as a school, nonprofit, church, or community center

  • Give: Sponsor classes, transportation, and essentials for participants

Rejoice is where movement becomes hope—and hope becomes momentum. Step in with us.
